Apparent Senkaku collision video posted online

Video footage of what appears to be the collision between a Chinese trawler and 2 Japanese patrol boats in September has been posted on the Internet.

The footage, released on a major video-sharing website on Thursday, appears to show the collisions near the Senkaku Islands in the East China Sea.

The 44-minute long footage, divided into 6 parts, shows a blue boat, which appears to be the Chinese trawler, ramming a vessel, which appears to be the Yonakuni of the Japan Coast Guard, from the rear.

The boat is then seen hitting another ship, which appears to be the patrol vessel Mizuki, from the right side.

A coast guard officer was heard on the video warning the boat in Chinese to leave Japanese waters. After the collisions, a voice can be heard saying that the boat rammed the Mizuki from the starboard side.

Earlier on Friday, the Japan Coast Guard held an emergency meeting. A senior official who saw the video said it is likely to be authentic.

On Monday, a group of lawmakers viewed a video of the collisions in the Diet committees. But, it was an edited version lasting 6 minutes and 50 seconds, and different from the one released on the website.

Meanwhile, a senior official of the Japanese government says he would not comment on the footage on the website until the government confirms its authenticity.
