　ロイター通信によると、パキスタンの警察当局者は２６日、テロ活動に関与した疑いで逮捕した米国人５人が、中部パンジャブ州チャシュマにある原子力発電所でのテロを計画していた可能性があることを明らかにした。

　警察はこれまで、５人が「アフガニスタンに行くつもりだった」と供述した、としていた。その後の捜査で、武装勢力とやりとりした電子メールから原発に触れたものが見つかったという。

　当局者は５人が原発で具体的に何をしようとしていたのかは明らかにしていない。

　５人は先月２９日に行方不明となり、米国の家族らが捜索願を出していた。警察当局はイスラム過激派メンバー宅に滞在中の５人を今月逮捕。いずれもイスラム教徒で、２人がパキスタン系、残る３人はエジプト系、エチオピア系、エリトリア系と確認された。（共同）
