Mr Oscar Fanjul
Oscar Fanjul was born in Santiago de Chile in 1949.
He holds a PhD in Economics and has been a full professor at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, and a Visiting Scholar at Harvard and at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
He was the Chairman Founder and CEO of Repsol, S.A. from its creation in 1986 until 1996, and is currently Honorary Chairman of the Company. He has also been Chairman of Hidroeléctrica del Cantábrico, and is at present Vice Chairman of Omega Capital.
He is a member of the Boards of Unilever (Advisory Director), the London Stock Exchange, Ericsson, S.A., the Marsh & McLennan Companies; Acerinox and Técnicas Reunidas. He is a member of the International Advisory Boards of The Chubb Corporation and of the European Advisory Board of The Carlyle Group. He is also an International Advisor to Goldman Sachs.
He is a member of the Trilateral Commission and has been a member of the Competitiveness Advisory Group to the President of the European Commission.
He started his professional career at the industrial holding I.N.I. in 1972, and has also worked at the Confederación Española Caja de Ahorros (Savings Bank). He served during 1983 and 1984 as Technical Secretary General and Undersecretary of the Ministry of Industry and Energy.
Dr. Oscar Fanjul
Dr. Oscar Fanjul started his career at the industrial holding I.N.I. and has also worked at the Confederación Española Cajas de Ahorros (savings bank). From 1983 to 1984, he served as Technical Secretary General and Undersecretary of the Ministry of Industry and Energy.
Dr. Fanjul was the Chairman Founder and CEO of Repsol, from its creation in 1986 until
1996 and is currently Honorary Chairman of the company.
He has previously been Chairman of Hidroeléctrica del Cantábrico, NH Hotels and is currently Vice-Chairman of Omega Capital.
Dr. Fanjul is a Non-Executive Director of the London Stock Exchange, Marsh & McLennan companies, Acerinox and Areva (the French nuclear power generation company). He is Vice-Chairman of the Lafarge Group.
He has been a Non-Executive Director at Unilever and BBVA.
He is an International Advisor to Goldman Sachs and a Trustee of the International Accounting Standards Committee. He is a member of the Trilateral Commission and has also been a member of the Competitiveness Advisory Group to the President of the Commission.
Dr. Fanjul is also Trustee of the Amigos del Museo del Prado Foundation, Fernández Ordóñez Foundation, Instituto de Estudios Superiores de Empresa (IESE) and of the Centro de Estudios Monetarios y Financieros (CEMFI).
