豚インフルエンザの発生源として浮上しているのが南部ベラクルス州の大規模養豚場。
この養豚場の経営しているのは米豚肉加工会社最大手のスミスフィールド・フーズ。
スミスフィールド側は発生源説を否定する声明を発表するものの現在株価は急落中。
２００８年６月にスミスフィールド株４．９５％を取得したのが、
中国国営大手食品企業グループの中糧集団（ＣＯＦＣＯ）。
そしてＣＯＦＣＯ会長の寧高寧（Gaoning Ning）はスミスフィールド取締役に就任。
はたしてメキシコをまたぐ両社社員の行き来はなかったのでしょうか。
中国の温家宝首相は中国国内で「感染が疑われる」ケースが生じた場合、
速やかに情報を公開する方針を示したとのことですが、本当に大丈夫？
メキシコ市に２人の駐在員がいるため、
１０日分でなんと約１０００枚ものマスクを空輸したのが伊藤忠商事。
伊藤忠商事は２００８年８月にＣＯＦＣＯとの包括戦略提携を発表。
変な噂が流れないように、
「伊藤忠さんが現地の情報に一番詳しいようです」で終わることにします。

7月1日、米豚肉生産、加工大手のスミスフィールドフード（Smithfield Foods Inc）社は自社株4.95％を中糧集団（ＣＯＦＣＯ）に売却したことが分かった。
中糧集団（ＣＯＦＣＯ）は中国国営の大手食品企業グループ。
中国農業部所属の北京東方艾格農業咨詢有限アナリストの郭会永氏は、「国内企業が海外豚肉生産・加工大手と業務を提携したのは初めてである」と述べた。また、中糧集団がスミスフィールドフードと中国国内で豚肉加工の合弁企業を設立する可能性も高いという。

【ワシントン＝勝田敏彦】ロイター通信は２９日、関係者の話として、豚インフルエンザへの感染で米テキサス州の生後１歳１１カ月の幼児が死亡したと報じた。米国で初めての死者確認で、メキシコ以外で豚インフルエンザによる死者が出たのは初めて。
米疾病対策センター（ＣＤＣ）のリチャード・ベッサー所長代行は２８日の会見で、「米国内で死者が出ることは避けられないと思う」と述べ、事態が深刻化する可能性にも言及していた。
